Sponsor Information

How can I support participants on the next programme?

There are a number of ways to support the next Future Leaders Programme - your choice will depend on how involved you'd like to be in the process, and how much you'd like to contribute.

Some of these options include:

  • Providing funding for a young leader from your organisation or community
  • Becoming a partial contributor to a Future Leaders cluster (what is a cluster?)
  • Becoming a full funder of a Future Leaders cluster
  • Becoming a primary partner of the Future Leaders Programme

What does the Programme cost?

Each place on the programme costs $10,000 + GST and includes travel, accommodation and catering associated with attendance at residentials. Almost all of our partners provide full scholarships for the programme.

What are the benefits of supporting the Programme?

As a Future Leaders supporter, you will become an important part of the Excelerator leadership learning community. You will also enjoy a unique relationship with the Future Leaders Programme, in particular with the individuals you've sponsored.

The benefits of being a supporter include:

  • Securing a place for a young person from your organisation, community or region, helping to ensure strong leadership in the future;
  • Acknowledgement of your support on the Excelerator website;
  • Acknowledgement in any press releases related to your scholarship recipient;
  • Invitations to the Future Leaders Programme launch and graduation functions;
  • Opportunities to meet and network with participants from the Future Leaders and other Excelerator leadership programmes;
  • Invitations to Excelerator and University of Auckland Business School functions;
  • Involvement during the selection process and course of the programme with your scholarship recipient if you would like.

As mentioned in 'How can I support participants on the next programme', the benefits associated with sponsorship will depend on your contribution and your desited level of involvement. We welcome your questions on this.

Who are the existing supporters of the Programme?

There are a number of existing supporters who have generously contributed to the Future Leaders Programme. Their support has enabled young leaders from across the country to benefit from this intensive 18-month leadership development process.

Some have also committed to investing in their communities or organisations young population for several consecutive programmes. We'd be happy to personalise your level of support based on your organisational or communities circumstances.

Who is this programme for?

The programme is for young leaders aged between 21 and 28, from around the country. Participants will be chosen for their aspirations within business, the community, politics or elsewhere. Click on the links for more information on the programme or comments from past participants.

What is a cluster?

A cluster is a group of 3 - 4 young leaders who share a context for leadership and all participate on the programme together.

This cluster may be geographic (e.g. a cluster of young leaders who live in the Otago region), economic/sectoral (e.g. a cluster of young people who all work in parts of the health sector) or cultural (e.g. a cluster of young leaders of Asian descent).

This approach allows the cluster's shared context to strengthen each participants' ability to make their learning real in their everyday activities. It also allows for collective projects to be undertaken for the community they represent. Meanwhile, the diversity of the wider group enables each participant to expand their understanding of divergent leadership contexts.

To discuss the opportunities in becoming a supporter, please contact Sarah Bowman.

"I work in the community development sector, and have always lived in rural New Zealand; today my knowledge and networks stem from business to politics, Northland to Southland. This programme has deeply enhanced my comprehension of who I am and my holistic understanding of New Zealand society, how all the cogs operate, and how I can impact on their rotation."
