Mark Bentley

My favourite quote from Peter Drucker is a good guide to the positive collaborative way that I believe leaders should operate and the personal approach I try to maintain: "Adversarial power relationships work only if you never have to see or work with the bastards again!"

Mark is our General Manager overseeing financial, HR, marketing, fundraising, planning, technology and administration services for the Institute. Mark is an alumnus of the Committee for Auckland's inaugural Future Leaders Programme and recently attended the "Leadership Journey" Programme at The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. Mark is currently Chair of "Building Better Schools Through Business Partnerships" a new initiative creating powerful partnerships at a governance level for low decile schools in need.

Until recently Mark managed The University of Auckland Business School's fundraising strategy and, in particular, the drive to raise $50m from the business community, alumni, trusts and others for the new people, programmes and facilities that will be essential for the school to achieve the world class status to which it aspires. Mark has also been the School's Director of Marketing Communications and been responsible for the development of alumni communications and services.

Mark was previously in charge of corporate marketing and alumni relations at Manchester Business School, a highly regarded international business school, and he also has prior experience of marketing and enterprise roles in the TV sport, further education and construction supplies industries. He is the holder of three national education marketing awards in the UK (Best Campaign 1995 and 1998 and Best Prospectus 1997). Mark has an English degree from Lancaster University and holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Diploma in Marketing.
