Senior executives have a significant impact on their organisations and the value these organisations place on leadership and leadership development. We are working with people at senior levels throughout New Zealand to develop and enhance their leadership capabilities in a programme that provides an unparalleled development experience.

The New Zealand alternative

Many senior executives have previously had to travel offshore to find opportunities that met their leadership development needs. Furthermore, many of the programmes that were offered were short-term and condensed, making them difficult to integrate into busy work and family lives, and often demanding significant periods of time away from home and the office. Such options also tend to have a less than desired sustained impact on leadership behaviour. The New Zealand Leadership Institute has therefore created a credible and powerful option in New Zealand for New Zealanders, that allows the time and space to develop deeper insights and works alongside the executive and their own leadership context.

Committed to sustainable, nationwide impact

NZLI is committed to growing New Zealand's understanding of how to successfully develop leadership in senior executives. Our collaboration with leading Business Schools and Leadership Institutes throughout the world and our ongoing review of recent academic literature continues to inform our development process. We want to share our own research findings and understanding with the wider New Zealand leadership development community in order to create a national impact.

The Programme encourages the building of cross-sectoral networks that support change across sectoral boundaries and the creation of a broader and more balanced view of leadership in each sector. As the senior executives on the Hillary Programme build on their own understanding of leadership, we believe that the impacts will filter through their organisations and industries, and help to develop greater leadership capacity in many sectors across New Zealand.

Who is the Hillary Leadership Programme for? 

The Hillary Leadership Programme is targeted at people at senior levels of leadership within New Zealand organisations.  This is to ensure that programme participants can experience a powerful peer learning environment.

This is a senior leadership programme with ambitious goals.  The programme's success depends on the quality and motivation of the participants.  It is therefore important that participants:

• Be prepared to actively contribute to the development process (sharing their own experiences, fears and hopes)
• Have a strong openness and willingness to learn
• Be committed to experimenting and applying the lessons learnt in their organisations, lives, and communities
• Have the necessary time and energy to commit to all aspects of the development process
